Working with Partners

An important part of the Federation's work is to bring tenants and residents groups together to discuss issues of common concern. The information we gain from these discussions is used to inform and develop our city-wide work.

Newcastle City Council commissioned Newcastle Tenants and Residents Federation to deliver independent support to its tenants across the city to realise the aims of the Tenant Involvement and Participation Strategy. The Strategy and Compact are soon to be replaced and the Federation is working with Your Homes Newcastle and Newcastle City Council to develop the Local 'Offers' regulatory framework.

The Federation sits as Vice Chair on the Lettings Advisory Group, which advises the council on allocation and lettings across the city. We were also a core member of the Tenant Involvement Advisory Group (TIAG), which was instrumental in developing and monitoring the Tenant Participation Strategy and Compact for the city.

Through TIAG, we have influenced and made significant achievements in securing the right for tenants to be involved in regeneration, estate cleansing, home improvements, recycling, and sustainability appraisal options and allocation of grants for organised Tenants and Resident Groups.

The Federation continues to play a key role in influencing the debate on affordable housing. At neighbourhood level, we have encouraged groups to influence Local Neighbourhood Charters.
