Volunteers needed for Private Tenant Voice

We are looking for volunteers to help us reach private tenants in Newcastle’s West End as part of our new Private Tenant Voice project.

Private Tenant Voice works with tenants in the private sector who want to address problems and influence housing policy and procedures.

What will volunteers do?

  • Door-knocking, asking for people’s views and experiences.

  • Helping on an information stall on Saturdays, at Adelaide Terrace, Benwell.

Qualities required:
We’re looking for people who are outgoing, happy to engage people in conversation, and able to walk some distance within the locality.

Time commitment:
We’re looking for people who can spare a couple of hours a week. This could be late afternoons and early evenings, and/or weekends.

Experience and qualifications:
No particular experience is required. But experience of youth and community work would be useful.

What do I get from it?
We’ll offer you training, the chance to make new friends, develop new skills and take part in a worthwhile project that promotes social justice. We’ll also offer you travel expenses and refreshments.

How do I get involved?
Please contact Mary Lowe, Community Development Worker at Newcastle Tenant and Resident Federation, on 0191 285 2724 or email Mary Lowe.

Volunteer café assistants

We are looking for volunteer café assistants to help serve food and refreshments to customers at our not-for-profit cafe, TARAs Tearoom.

Ideally, we’d like volunteers to cover the café between 9am and 1.30pm on a couple of days each week, between Monday and Thursday.

This role would suit an outgoing person who enjoys working with people. Previous café experience would be an advantage, but is not essential as full training is offered.

Volunteers will do various tasks, including:

  • Preparing food and drinks.

  • Serving customers.

  • Washing dishes and assisting with kitchen cleaning duties.

Volunteers will be provided with full training, travel expenses, a free hot lunch, and valuable experience for their CV.
